How to measure a Reddit creator campaign (without UTM-tagging a member's post)

Tracking links kill credibility on Reddit. What to measure instead — thread survival, branded search, assistant citations, direct traffic — and how to attribute honestly.

Reddit is bad at last-click attribution and good at the thing last-click can't see: the thread that gets read 40 times before someone types your name into Google. Measure accordingly.

Attribute honestly

  • Before/after, same length. Two weeks before the post vs two weeks after, on branded search and direct traffic. It's crude and it's honest.
  • Ask at sign-up. “Where did you hear about us?” with Reddit as an option. Self-reported beats nothing.
  • Promo codes, if the sub allows. A code the creator mentions naturally is fine; a tracking link in every comment isn't.

Set up before you post

  • Note current branded-search impressions and direct traffic.
  • Write your five buyer questions; ask the assistants; save the answers.
  • Post the job and log the date the thread goes up.

Then compare in 30 days. If the thread's still up and the numbers moved, post the next job. Start with the first.

Questions people ask

Can the creator use a UTM link?
Usually a bad idea: tracking links look like marketing and many subreddits strip or ban them. A plain link or, better, just the product name — people search for it — keeps the post credible. Measure the lift, not the click.
How long before I see anything?
Referral traffic within days if the thread does well. Branded search and AI citations build over weeks to months as the thread gets indexed and quoted.
What's a good result for a first post?
The thread is still up after a week, has real questions in the replies, and branded search ticks up. That's a working channel; scale it before optimising it.
