Launching a product on Reddit: the 30-day plan that doesn't get you banned

Week by week: which communities, which people, what to post, what to measure. Built around one job post and two creators, not a spray of links from your own account.

Most Reddit launches are one day long: the founder posts in five subreddits, four remove it, one thread gets twelve comments, and the team concludes Reddit doesn't work. This plan is thirty days, uses your own account exactly once, and spends the rest on people the communities already trust.

Week 1 — map, don't post

  • List the five questions a buyer asks before choosing something like you. Search Reddit for each. Note which subreddits the top threads live in — that's your map, and it's usually three communities, not ten.
  • Read each subreddit's rules and the last month of removed-looking posts. Learn what survives.
  • Post a job on BidPanda. Category, the three subreddits, minimum karma and account age, “creators wanted: 2”, a budget range. Your brand stays hidden. Template here.

Week 2 — pick the people

  • Creators who fit express interest; you see their full profile. Verify each Reddit account: incognito check, backlink in bio, recent posts in your subreddit.
  • Talk on X. Ask the one question that matters: “would this genuinely fit your community, and how would you post it?” Hire the two whose answers sound like the subreddit.
  • Your own account: one honest launch post in a founder-friendly community (r/SideProject, r/startups, the relevant “show off” thread), disclosed, rules followed. Once.

Week 3 — the threads go up

  • Creator A: a comparison or workflow post where you're one honest option.
  • Creator B: comments in existing “what should I use for X” threads — the ones you found in week 1.
  • You: answer questions in those threads only when asked directly, as the founder, disclosed. Never argue.

Week 4 — measure, then decide on month 2

  1. Branded search volume and direct traffic vs the month before.
  2. Google “yourproduct reddit” — what ranks?
  3. Ask ChatGPT and Perplexity your five questions — are you mentioned, and is the thread cited?
  4. Mark the creators hired; the job closes. If it worked, post month 2's job: same creators on a monthly presence, or two new communities.

Everything above hinges on step three of week one. Post the job — it's free, anonymous, and the creators come to you.

Questions people ask

Should I post my launch in r/SideProject or r/startups myself?
Those communities allow founder posts under their rules — read them, disclose, and expect blunt feedback. That's a launch announcement, not marketing. The marketing happens in the niche subreddits your customers use, where a founder account reads as a vendor.
How many creators do I need for a launch?
Two is plenty for a first launch: one for a post, one for comments in existing threads. Post a job with 'creators wanted: 2' and pick from the applicants.
How fast can this start?
Posting a job takes ten minutes. Interested creators typically reveal it within a day or two; the first post can go up within the week.
